How to Compress a Video for Email
To make a video small enough for email, compress it at Balanced quality first, then reduce the resolution to 720p if it is still too large. GoVid processes the video locally and lets you compare the final size before attaching it.
Why are video attachments rejected?
Mail providers limit the size of each message, and the encoded attachment can be larger than the file stored on your device. A shorter clip, lower resolution, or lower video bitrate can bring the file below the provider’s current limit. Check the limit shown by your own mail service because policies change.
What settings work well for email?
For a talking-head clip or quick demonstration, 720p with Balanced compression is a practical starting point. Use High compression for longer clips. If sound is unnecessary, removing audio saves additional space. Keep a copy of the original before making a heavily compressed sharing version.
Can I target an exact attachment size?
GoVid reports the actual size after compression rather than promising an exact target. Encoding results depend on motion and detail: a static presentation compresses more easily than sports footage. If needed, lower the resolution or increase compression and run it again.
Does GoVid read or store the video?
No. The file is processed by FFmpeg WebAssembly in your browser. It is not uploaded to GoVid, which is especially useful when an attachment contains private client, family, or workplace footage.
